April 17, 2016: Purple

The color of the lavender poms
you place on his grave thrice a year, once
on his birthday, once on your anniversary, and once
on the anniversary of his death.

The color of your face as you
begin to feel squeamish.

The color of the heart
soldiers wear to showcase
their tremendous honor
to save one another in the eyes
of danger and deceit.
