April 14, 2016: Gnats & Slim Packs

Ruffled streets
filled with gravel and dust
dim a light on a young woman
in torn fishnet stockings
covered by ruby glazed heels.

Lights flicker
gnats swerve in and out
of her knotted hair.
On gnat hits
the fence post; where
the sign, "Please
do not smoke here," reads.

She pulls a lighter
from her jeans pocket.
Her folded pack of Virginia Slims
is ruined; all but one
single cigarette.

She lights it
She smokes it.

Dimming light
flickers, sparks,
OUT.
