You Never See a Bullet Come For You

Beer bottles broken on curbs.
Lies meant to hurt.

I see no good
coming of it.

My baby's smile
His laugh.

This good
I want to see more of.

I wish to feel the thunder
and kiss the strikes
that befall our nation.

I wish to heal the stars
and carry the fights
we face in our heads.

I long to understand
the ways of
those who see past
what we never could.
